Rabbit Ears

From cousin Cheryl’s we headed East on I-80 for about eighty miles, then aimed VanGo South for one of our favorite playgrounds the Colorado Rockies. From what we’ve seen of Wyoming, we are pretty sure they will never run out of sage brush or antelopes. We stopped in Craig for lunch, then headed East on I-40 through Steamboat Springs and over Rabbit Ears Pass ( elevation 9,429 ft). Just past the summit we drove past a National Forest Campground sign for Meadows Campground. We made use of VanGo’s excellent turning radius and turned back to check it out. After days of driveway squatting, we were ready to do a few days of real outdoor camping. It was fourish on a Friday and we were hoping to get a spot for the weekend, before the weekend warriors showed up. We lucked out as the campground operated on a first-come first-served basis and the campground was only about half full. While, according to the well traveled hand-held altimeter Lowell & LaVonne gave us as an RV warming present when we bought our old Winnebago, the altitude was a bit high at 9,100 ft, we were pleasantly surprised that we had 4 bars of AT&T 3G cell reception though. DR had been noticeably short of breath once before when we had camped well above 10,000 ft. We figured at $15 for three nights ($5 per night, with senior pass), we could afford to walk away from the deal if we had to. So here we are in a beautiful spot (above), in an alpine meadow, for a weekend of rest and relaxation. Just for fun, we’ve been sitting out spying on our neighbors (below):

Love y’all,

DR and Laura
