After postponing last year, due to the rash of pulmonary illnesses that ran through our family caused by the Thomas fire, we are off to Alaska and hopefully the Arctic Circle. Our GPS equipped cell phones advised us that there was a one hour delay on our route due to an accident in the gorge between Mesquite and St. George. Our phones offered up an alternate route via highway 91. We were glad we took the alternate as we noticed the tail-end of the traffic jam just as we exited our original route.
We made good time, an 11 hour day of driving, to our secret spot in Beaver Utah. We’ve stayed here several times before. It is a small triangle of space in a truck stop parking lot that is not usable by the 18 wheelers. The lot was pretty much full of big rigs parked in long lines like keys on a piano. However, our secret spot was empty and waiting patiently for our arrival. It is even right next to a small lake (pond). As you can see in this photo.

Most of the big rigs leave their diesel engines running for power and air conditioning while the drivers sleep. The drone of their engines lulled us into a good nights sleep.
You guys leave town and miss all the excitement around here!

Darn right. We didn’t want to be around when the big one was imminent.
