Logan Canyon, UT to Idaho Falls, ID

We, thanks to a wonky GPS on our phones, took a more circuitous route than planned to Idaho Falls. We wanted to take the back roads so DR could see the beautiful fields on Highway 26 just out of Swan Valley at a different time of year. Our phone GPSs kept telling us “I found a shorter route that will save you ____ minutes” as a double negative question, with a default, which we took inadvertently, that messed up from our planned route. We finally turned off the GPS routing and went old school, as we are old enough to remember how to follow a map and general sense of direction.

What last time were beautiful golden fields of grain being harvested by monstrous red combines, were now fields of green with glorious carpets of yellow canola flowers as if created by some painters hand.

We arrived at our destination, the Chrestmans in Idaho Falls, around dinner time. It was good to see old friends again. Laura and Leora Chrestman have been friends for decades and even roommates. Leora’s mom Betty is a kick and DR loves to hear her memories of growing up on a ranch in Montana, 60 miles from the nearest town. Leora’s brothers Mike and Marvin entertain and keep DR busy while the girls go shopping and gambling at Fort Hall, an indian casino, where Laura lost $60 and Leora won around $1300. They proceeded to spoil us from the moment we arrived with the best of food and company. Marvin out did himself barbecuing hamburger, hot dogs and smoked chicken. All finger licking good. Mike and DR talked guns and other man talk stuff. It was hard to say good bye, but we know we will be back to the Chrestman B&B.

  1. After you made all that fun of me for having “physical maps” in my car, I can’t believe you actually admitted to having used one . . . I do believe you owe me a nickel!
    P.S. Looks like you’re having a great time . . . keep it going.
