Anderson Campground

From Fairbanks we checked our resources and thought that the little campground in the small community of Anderson would be a nice place to hang out for a day or two. As we drove up to the campground there was a makeshift booth manned by a young woman. We said we needed a camping spot and she replied that the campground was closed and being used for the Fifth Annual Anderson Family Music Festival, and that we were close to first in line for the opening. We could stay the weekend for a mere $40 apiece. When asked what kind of music she replied that it used to be just bluegrass, but this year they were including country and rock (with no rap, hip-hop or heavy metal). We looked at each other and in a scene straight out of Forest Gump we found ourselves and VanGo in a huge field, front and center in a sea of motorhomes, pickup trucks and ATVs. We could watch the stage through our windshield when we were not in our lawn chairs. It is quite surreal to think that on what was supposed to be an Alaska wildlife photo safari we are sitting here cuddled up in the middle of a music festival. Shades of our youth.

  1. Well, as Bullwinkle always said: “Life is full of surprises!” I’m sure Mary Wilson would be interested in this. Glad you are well and having fun!
